Chrismons and Travnats are spreading the meaning of Christmas

At Huntingdon Methodist Church (HMC) we have once again decorated our Chrismon Tree and sent our Travnat on its Advent adventure!

If you are not familiar with a 'Chrismon', it's a portmanteau of the words 'Christ's monograms' and our tree is decorated with just silver, gold or white items, and clear white lights. Each item has a specific Christian relevance and includes, crowns, angels, crosses, doves, stars, harps, sheep, words of joy, peace and noel.

Our Travnat is another portmanteau combining the words 'travelling nativity' which spends the whole of Advent meandering from house to house. It brings the joy of Christmas to every home where it rests overnight, before finally returning to HMC on Christmas morning.

Both our Chrismon Tree and Travnat provide us with numerous opportunities to share the good news and the joy of Christmas. It is sadly not unusual to meet children and young people who are really surprised that Santa Claus is not the main person in the nativity story.
